Welcome!

Over the course of my long career I have gone off in a variety of directions and experimented with different mediums.

My current focus is primarily landscape inspired abstraction. The work is mixed media on paper, canvas or birch panel. I have been fortunate to work with decorators and galleries on many projects for both residential and commercial clients from New York to Florida and points in-between.

I also enjoy plein air landscape painting in pastels and oil.

Near Magdalena - SOLD

This small "plein air" oil painting (approx. 9" X 10") "Near Magdalena" just sold this afternoon and I realized I didn't have a photograph of it. I just sold three older paintings recently that went out the door and I hadn't photographed them either. Shame on me. You would think I would have learned by now. At least those three paintings are at a nearby friends house. I will have plenty of opportunity to get pictures of them at some point.

This little gem of a painting is part of a series of small landscapes that I did about two years ago. I have always liked this one. It is going to a good home and will be part of a wonderful art collection. The gentleman who purchased this painting is an avid art collector and I have been in his home to see it. Very impressive. Made my day!

"REPLY" at the Gear Factory

KII posed for this photo with Mom on opening night of "Reply" at the Gear Factory, Saturday, October 10, 2009.

This show was a lot of fun and the turnout was good as it always is for the shows there. Looks like Kevin and I may have landed another show in another venue. A gallery curator who saw our work at this exhibit has expressed interest in giving us a show. I'll fill you in later as this develops.

"Mid Town Blues" SOLD

This acrylic abstraction is one of a set of three. The other two paintings in the set sold several years ago at a gallery in Rochester. This one has been in storage for several years and I recently brought it out and "re-discovered" it.

I really like this painting. It is very vibrant and would be great in an office or a contemporary home. I have decided to exhibit it in the "Reply" art show at the Gear Factory in Syracuse. This show opens Saturday, Oct. 10 at 200 So. Geddes St., Syracuse.

Recent work from the members of
Hat Factory Art Collective

Oswego Civic Arts Center

Sponsored by The Art Association of Oswego

Reception on October 10th from 7-9 pm

The reception is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Opening in the Timothy McHenry Gallery on the Art Center’s second floor will be Willful Eclecticism, an invitational exhibition of CNY artists whose work embodies a Postmodern approach. Selected area artists have been asked to submit artwork along with an explanation of its relationship to Postmodern themes such as conscious borrowing of ideas or imagery, skepticism toward universal beliefs, and reaction against modernist strategies of image-making.

Opening concurrently in the Jo Hyse Gallery on the first floor of the Arts Center will be a new exhibition of artwork by the members of Hat Factory, a local art collective of emerging artists whose work is diverse and cutting-edge.

The Oswego Civic Arts Center is located at the northernmost end of East 4th Street in Oswego, directly across from Fort Ontario.

Regular gallery hours are from 2-5 pm on weekends or by appointment. For more info call 315 343-5675.

Plein Air Painting at Boldt Castle

Last Wednesday I was invited to join a group of artists from the region to paint "en plein air" at the famous Boldt Castle in the Thousand Islands. Although I have been to the Thousand Islands many times, this was my first visit to Boldt Castle. Needless to say I was impressed. Pictured here are the castle (top), the boat house and at the bottom is the power house.

I will post the work done next. Stay tuned!

2009 TUG HILL PLEIN AIR PAINT OUT

Despite rain showers in the forecast the day turned out absolutely beautiful. Eighteen of the regions top landscape painters were invited to participate in the 2nd annual event, a fundraiser for Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust. Works completed between 9:00 am and 2:00pm were auctioned that evening following a wine and cheese reception and preview.

Art Literally & St. David's COTA Success

This is the second year in a row that Kevin and I participated in the the St. David's Celebration of the Arts in Dewitt and Watertown's Art Literally art shows. Despite the ailing economy we enjoyed good sales at both.

I sold an original abstraction at St. David's and Kevin sold two digitally manipulated photographs.

The Watertown show which benefits the Watertown Library and the Northern New York Red Cross was also very good to us. I sold an original pastel landscape and Kevin sold two photographs.

All together between the two shows our sales totalled almost $1,200.00 of which almost half went to the charity sponsors and the balance back to the artists.

I do not know the totals for the shows but indications are that they may have been down slightly but still good fundraisers for the sponsors.

Up next - The TUG HILL PLEIN AIR PAINT OUT on Sunday June 21 at Constable Hall in Constableville, NY. This invitational event features 20 of the top plein air painters in the region who produce work that is auctioned off at the end of the day to benefit the Tug Tomorrow Land Trust. Hope to see you there!

"A Work In Progress"

This is one of several paintings that I am currently working on. This piece may become just a smaller study for a much larger piece, but I'll have to see. I will be working on the reflection on the beach and try to bring that to life.

Back to Work At Last!

After a long lay off it feels good to get back to painting again. We are just too busy in the gallery during the holidays to really devote much time to painting. I have a number of shows coming up in 2009 so I need to get back to it. Sometimes taking a little time off is refreshing you come back with new energy. On the other hand I think it is ultimately better to paint everyday when possible.

"I consider myself mostly a landscape painter - even my abstract work is based on landscapes, or at least inspired by the natural world. Fields , flowers, trees, the sky - everything I see around me finds it’s way into my painting"
